Luxilon Adrenaline String Review

Luxilon makes some of the best tennis strings on the planet. So much so that the majority of touring professional players use some form of Luxilon string in their racket setup. However, this does mean they tend to be a bit on the pricey side, which can put some recreational players off the prestigious brand. However, one of the more affordable but still high quality models from Luxilon is Adrenaline. This control focussed polyester tennis string with a great blend of feel, spin and precision.

Power

6out of 10

For a polyester string, Luxilon Adrenaline is a reasonably powerful string!

Of course, it does not match some of the specifically designed power players out there like Big Banger or Solinco Hyper-G there or naturally powerful multifilament or natural gut. But, for a control focussed poly, Adrenaline offers some decent pop.

Most polyester strings have a characteristically ‘dead’ or muted feel due to their stiffness. This is what enhances their control and spin potential, but at the same time limits their power.

As far as Adrenaline is concerned, it is definitely a string that favours control and spin over power, but it is of medium stiffness so does have some spring to it!

Adrenaline is still a reasonably crisp string that will offer a good level of snapback, but it will also give you more of a helping hand than some of the more popular control focussed strings out there.

Something to note with this string is that it is probably most suitable for intermediate to advanced level players that want to maximise control, precision and spin in their game and are able to generate most of their power themselves.

It is a medium stiffness, so will offer some forgiveness and comfort to a certain extent for this type of string. However, adrenaline will likely be too stiff and underpowered for a beginner player wanting their strings to do the work for them.

Control

8out of 10

One of the major areas that Adrenaline shines is on the control side of things. It is a great all rounder that offers a fairly neutral feeling off the string bed, which is great for consistency and predictability.

The added softness of this string also makes it easy to string up a bit in terms of tension, so you can play around with this to find the perfect level of control for you.

The main thing that made Adrenaline stand out on the control front was the muted feel. It is not completely dead and void of any connection, but it is a blank canvas from which you can express yourself in whichever way you like.

There is a good amount of pop, but this is not a very powerful string overall and if you find the right tension for you, it can be a very precise string to play with.

Touch

8out of 10

As far as touch goes, again this was a pretty strong suit of Luxilon Adrenaline. Whilst it is not as perfectly precise as an extremely stiff co-poly, it is definitely a string that performs well in all areas of the court.

No matter whether you are clubbing flatter balls from the baseline, approaching the net with a lot of spin or looking to apply some deft touch on drop volleys, Adrenaline will have you covered.

The neutral feel means you can always anticipate what the string is going to do. This is great for all court players that will go from hitting big ground strokes from the baseline, to soft volleys in quick succession.

You also get that crisp, responsive feel from Adrenaline. When you grip it and rip it you can really feel exactly where the ball is going to go, which is something I really tend to look for in a control focussed tennis string.

Whilst it is not the plushest feeling string in the world, it is relatively comfortable and this helps with its playability.

Spin

7.5out of 10

As far as spin goes, Luxilon Adrenaline is a good performer. It is not as spin friendly as the rough version of the string or other more angular shaped strings like Babolat RPM Rough for example, but it does offer good snapback and grabs the ball nicely.

I found on my slices that the ball would really bite nicely and this was also true on sticked volleys.

When ripping the ball from the back of the court, Adrenaline felt like it would keep my shots inside the court which gave me a sense of comfort using the string.

It was great on serve too, offering great bite on both kick and slice serves without taking too much away from my powerful first serve.

Durability

7.5out of 10

The vast majority of polyester strings tend to lose their tension over time as their stiffness will simply deaden the string and keep its performance window relatively small.

This is an issue that is often solved by pre-stretching the string to ensure it has better tension maintenance and a more consistent feel across its life.

However, Adrenaline is a very consistent performer right out the box, making it one of the most durable strings out there.

It won’t last forever and is certainly not as durable in terms of overall lifespan as some of the stiffer polyester strings on the market.

It remains pretty lively and responsive throughout the duration of its life, and only drops off just before it needs to be restrung anyway. Adrenaline will maintain its performance longer than most and that is something that Luxilon definitely deserves credit for.

Comfort

7out of 10

The liquid crystalline polymer material used to make Luxilon Adrenaline dials out a lot of the unwanted feedback that can plague some more stiff poly strings and make them uncomfortable to play with. This is a real asset to this string as it sets it apart from a lot of its competitors.

With this in mind, the comfort levels of Adrenaline are up there with the most pliant poly strings on the market.

It is a very well judged string, not too mushy but also not so stiff that it is inaccessible for players with tennis elbow or that prefer a more vibrant string feel.

This also makes Adrenaline a very well rounded string, especially for the price point. It offers good spin, comfort, durability and control all in an affordable package.

Overall

8.5out of 10

All told, Luxilon Adrenaline is an impressive all rounder. It doesn’t do one particular thing exceptionally well, but this actually works to its advantage.

This is the type of string that is more than the sum of its parts, as it blends control, spin, durability, comfort and a little bit of power together to form a fantastic overall package.

When you consider that this string is also on the lower end of Luxilon’s price range, it makes it even more appealing and well worth a try at the very least.

This string is best suited to a player that favours control over power from their strings, but also wants a polyester that will not give them arm issues and still offer some pop when they need it.

Again, Adrenaline definitely favours control and spin over anything else, but you still get a relatively pliant and springy sensation from the string.

The crystaline polymer technology that Luxilon have implemented here dials out some of the unwanted vibrations, making this a more comfortable experience overall.

This also helps to improve the muted feel of the string, which is fairly neutral and gives a consistent response.

Luxilon Adrenaline is a great all rounder for intermediate to advanced players looking to get the most out of their all court game.
