Wilson Synthetic Gut Power Review

Sometimes, when it just feels like you’re not hitting the ball as sweetly as you would like, it’s handy to have a string that offers you plenty of free power.

It means you don’t have to worry so much about creating the power and can focus on getting the ball in and hitting your targets.

The big thing with this string was how easy it made things. You don’t have to put 110% into every shot to get the ball moving and that’s a nice change from some of the more control-oriented strings.

I found this particularly helped me on my weaker backhand side where I was able to get a bit more pop than normal and keep a really good depth.

It’s also pretty nice on the serve, where you can squeeze out an extra few MPH.

Power-wise, Wilson Synthetic Gut Power was exactly what I wanted, it made my life nice and easy and offered good power on all shots.

You’ve always got that flipside when it comes to string. Synthetic Gut Power might offer you great access to power, but you have to make sacrifices in control to get it.

There are going to be some players who crave the power, but there are also going to be plenty of players who want more control.

If you’re someone who likes to tee-off on every ball then you might want a little bit more control than this string can offer.

If that’s the case, but you still want to benefit from the feel of the string, it might be worth looking at using this string in a hybrid setup with a more control-oriented string.

However, if you’re someone who is looking for a nice power boost then you needn’t worry.

It’s not like you lose control completely, it’s just a tradeoff you have to make between power and control.

We gave Wilson Synthetic Gut Power a 6.5 out of 10 for control.

The clue is in the name, it’s got the power, so you don’t get quite as much control.

We’re back to another strong area for this string. Throughout the playtest, I benefited from great feel from Wilson Synthetic Gut Power.

The strings are soft and really give you time to feel the ball on the strings. I always say feel is something that’s difficult to quantify, but I just felt like I had silky touch with this string.

When you’re trying to play difficult shots in and around the net, this is a great help and I certainly felt the benefits on the more finesse shots.

We gave Synthetic Gut Power an 8.5 out of 10 for feel.

While this synthetic gut can’t offer you the crazy levels of spin that some of the poly strings do, it still does a reasonable job at getting the ball turning.

Of course, much of it depends on your strokes but the string does make a difference and I would say this one is something of a middle ground.

You get reasonable access to spin, but it’s not a primary characteristic of Wilson Synthetic Gut Power.

Personally, I would have liked to feel I got a little bit more grip on the ball, but I think for the majority of players, this string will offer enough.

This string picks up a 7 out of 10 for spin, not a bad score.

You can’t fault this string when it comes to comfort.

So many of us play with strings that are so stiff and offer very little in the way of comfort, so it’s nice to play with something so easy on the joints for a change.

This string can offer comfort to any hybrid setup, along with excellent feel.

I’m someone who has had quite a few wrist problems in the past, so I appreciate when a string is easy on your joints and that’s what you get with this string.

Wilson Synthetic Gut Power gets an excellent score of 8.5 out of 10 for comfort, and we must say, we enjoyed this aspect of the playtest.

Again, this string performed admirably when it came to durability.

We were impressed with its ability to maintain its tension and it’s not a string that snaps easily.

I know there are certain people out there who love a fresh restring every week, but for me, I want to stave off restringing my racket for as long as possible.

Wilson Synthetic Gut Power helps you with this endeavor by keeping its tension nicely and lasting for a good amount of time.

This can be an undervalued aspect of a good string, but when you’re going into the stringing shop once a week, it’s something you start to take notice of.

We found this string to offer good durability and gave it an 8 out of 10.

Overall, Wilson Synthetic Gut Power is a very good string for players looking for power, feel, and durability.

We enjoyed our playtest with this string, and would recommend it to players looking for some easy playability.

Even if you’re a bit more control-oriented, it is worth looking at this string a part of a hybrid setup with a poly.

The poly can add a little bit of control, while you still benefit from the feel of the synthetic gut.
